Last week, Perry Dean participated in the charrette, “Towards Zero Net Energy (TZNE),” sponsored by DCAMM and DOER, at Greenfield Community College. In the words of DCAMM Commissioner Gladstone, the goal was “to build on our prior work, assess developments and trends in this field, and explore whether and how to expand this effort to DCAMM’s new construction and major renovation projects as well as facilities operations.”
It was a rare opportunity to have representatives from different agencies and stakeholders all in the same room: MassDOT, DCR, National Grid, NESEA, Massachusetts National Guard, Leading by Example, DCAMM, architects, engineers, construction managers, higher education personnel and various energy and facilities professionals. The visioning exercise centered on the questions, “What is our common vision for sustainability at state facilities? What are our long-term clean energy goals?” The afternoon breakout sessions separated into three groups – New Construction, Renovation, and Facilities & Maintenance – in order to delve deeper into related issues.
Many thanks to DCAMM’s E-Team for organizing and facilitating these important and thought-provoking sessions.
