Massachusetts Ties Biomass Incentives to Carbon Emission Reduction

As reported in a Globe article last week, new rules would tie biomass energy incentives to reductions in carbon emissions. Industry decried the decision, claiming that it would stem growth and kill jobs, but the administration maintained that the industry has largely evaded carbon emissions to date, and that this change was needed based on findings of scientific studies. The rules would also require sustainable harvesting of biomass fuel, and require increased efficiency of systems.
