The Big Dig as Template?

Although this title is probably making Bostonians and federal watchdogs groan, this is precisely what an article in the April 2010 RIBA Journal postulates. The article is about an 80 hectare, 45bn euro linear park in Madrid that sits atop a depressed motorway. There is an inset box describing the Rose Kennedy Greenway that talks about projects that have come in the wake of the big dig, building upon or revitalizing existing infrastructure: Manhattan's High Line, and planned "freeway cap" projects in Downtown LA, Santa Monica, and Hollywood. Although the oft-criticized Big Dig had its problems, our office sits just to the side of the Greenway, and the improvement in air, light, and sound quality in our daily experience is undeniable.
